QS Fibre: Always there for you, 24 and 7 !

A Brief History

Pulmac Inc was incorporated in 2003 and, in 2012, became a founding shareholder in Pulmac Systems International Inc of Williston, Vermont. Pulmac Inc was responsible for all manufacturing and service until it formally broke with Pulmac Systems in May, 2015. Changing its name to QS Fibre Inc in 2016, the Montreal-based company  offers the  AutoScan for on or off-line determination of fibre, shive, and fines size distributions as well as competitive products and services for :

  • Pulmac MasterScreen, Z-Span Tester, Automated Sheet Former, Beater, and Dewatering Device.
  • Provisioning of testing services, in-mill service support, and mill studies

QS Fibre is owned and  operated by Brent Cowan, son of Wavell Cowan and grandson of inventor, industrialist and Pulmac patriarch, Eli Cowan.

QS Fibre offers testing services to assess various pulp quality parameters associated with samples provided by our clients. We provide fibre quality data through QS Zero-Span strength  length, and bonding indices as well as fibre size distributions  plotted by the QS AutoImager and contaminant (stickies, pitch, shives, dirt, and sclereids) levels as differentiated by the QS Fibre Screen and measured by our QualScan system.

We also provide interpretive analysis and testing program consultative services. WE can do testing at our Montreal facility or provide in-mill support. The scope of our in-mill support runs from setting up testing procedures to determining and implementing a comprehensive longitudinal fibreline plot, where pulp quality parameters are measured at pertinent process locations over an extended period of time. This plot will put normal process variation in relief and will enable process variation control limits to be established.

QS Fibre Testing Services provide our clients with fibre quality data that link causal factors on one side of a production step process with their effects further downstream. They also associate variations in fibre quality going onto the papermachine with runnability and quality at the reel. With the QS Fibre approach, FIBRE truly becomes the essential common denominator.
